The Ice Bucket Challenge is back, and this time, it’s on TikTok! Unlike the 2014 version focused on ALS, this revival is all about youth mental health. What’s driving the hype? It’s the vulnerability and relatability that strike a chord with Gen Z TikTok users.

Reborn through the MIND Club, the challenge calls for ice water, nominations, and donations to Active Minds, an organization supporting youth mental health. With the hashtag #SpeakYourMIND, the trend has already sparked over 116,000 videos and raised $345,000 (TikTok Analytics, 2025).

The power lies in the vulnerability trend. TikTok craves authenticity, creators who speak openly about mental struggles like stress or low moods are getting massive engagement. According to Shopify Netherlands (2024), emotional videos using hashtags like #icebucketchallenge get 30% more shares. Take creator Nina Houston, for example. Nominated for the challenge, she used her video, now at nearly 600K views, to share her motivation as a psychology student: to be part of a trend that sparks real conversations about mental health.

The algorithm plays its part too: emotionally resonant videos using niche hashtags rise fast. Not everyone is cheering, though, some miss the original ALS focus. Still, even the ALS Association has voiced support for this new mission.

Hype Club’s takeaway? Virality = authenticity + timing. Grab a bucket, be yourself, use #SpeakYourMIND, and nominate your friends. Vulnerability is the new superpower. So… who will you nominate?
